Dr. Evan Parks

Evan graduated from Cedarville College in 1985 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in theology.  In 1987, he completed a Master’s of Arts Degree in psychology from Western Michigan University and worked for the next two years at a community mental health clinic in Michigan.  After moving to Chicago in 1989, Evan started his work toward his doctorate in clinical psychology at the Forest Institute of Professional Psychology while working at The Baldwin Center in Deerfield, Illinois.  In 1993, Evan graduated from the Forest Institute (magna cum laude) and began a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Clinical Psychology at the Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan where he continued doing research, writing for professional journals, and teaching at the medical school.

After opening a private practice, Evan became the Clinical Director of Christian Family Services in 1995.  He also taught psychology as an adjunct professor at Michigan Theological Seminary until December of 2000.  Evan met his wife Carrie while in the metro Detroit area.  They were married in 1993 and have two children.

From 1987 to 2000 Evan worked as a psychologist in the United States.  Besides his main work with traumatized people and adults with eating disorders, Evan worked with many pastors, church leaders and missionaries.  Typical problems included addictions, marital conflict and depression.  He started the work of evaluating and screening personnel for mission agencies in 1990.  In 1999, Evan provided marriage seminars for SEND International staff in Europe.  It was at this time that he was asked by SEND to consider opening a permanent Care Center in Hungary to serve the needs of Christian workers serving in Central Europe.

Evan currently serves with SEND International.  He is the Director of the Budapest Care Center, which provides counseling services to missionaries throughout Eastern Europe and Russia.  In addition, Evan is involved in teaching national and mission leaders how to provide help to others.
